Why was Christ born? (A reminder)

January 13, 2007

I would like to stir up your mind by way of remembrance today.

This was written in December, but I neglected to post it… just some thoughts that are relevant at all times.

This is a good time of the year to remember the birth of Christ, whether you believe in celebrating Christmas or not. Not only do we remember Christ’s birth, but more importantly, why was He born?
Why did He come?
Some of us have been in The Way for years, however I do believe we need to be reminded of Christ and why He came.

He came as The Lamb, slain from the foundation of the world. For what? OUR SINS.
“And she (Mary) shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matt.1:21)
God loves us so much, that He sent His Son into the world, to live in the world, than die as the ultimate sacrifice for all our sins. Now that’s love ! Why? Because without the sacrifice, we are all “dead in trespasses and sins.”

“In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” Christ brings forth life, sin brings forth death.
I love John’s definition of love. “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (atonement) for our sins.” (1Jn.4:10)
It would do us all good to stop and remember God’s love for us. We didn’t deserve it. We didn’t earn it. God gave it !

Christ is the expression of God’s love to us. Without the sacrifice, we would all die in our sins and spend eternity separated from God. Why? Because our sins deserve it. God hates sin, so much that He sent us His Son to be the sacrifice for all our sins.
John the Baptist had it figured out when he said, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
Let us be reminded this day.
Amen
