Why do I need Jesus?

Originally this question came to me in a vision. I saw myself standing on the corner talking to this guy about coming to God through Jesus. After about 20 seconds, he stops me and says out loud, “Wait, Why do I need Jesus?”
Since this time, about four months have past and I have often recalled this question many times. I have written a tract in much shorter form than my original work. Here it is.

Why do you need Jesus?

To be able to answer this question you need to first understand your condition before God. The center of your being, commonly called your “heart” is morally corrupt (Jer.17:9). How did it get this way? You were born with a sinful nature that was inherited from the first man Adam. You might say that you have his sinful DNA. Not only that, but you have sinned and broken God’s commandments (Rom.3:23). You are guilty.

To help you understand your own hearts condition, Jesus gave you some ways to know what is in your own heart. He said, “out of the heart, proceeds evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, envy, arrogance etc. (Mk.7:20-23). Here we see that your thoughts and actions reveal what’s in your own heart. Also He said, “For out of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt.12:34). Take inventory of your own personal heart. Over the last two weeks, how did you fair? Was every thought wholesome and pure? How about towards others?

Because God is Just, Righteous and Holy, he will except nothing less. “For the Lord is Righteous, he loves Righteousness, Righteous men will see his face” (Psa.11:7) “…..therefore be holy, because I am holy” (Lev.11:45) “make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord” (Heb.12:14). So we see that God is Righteous and Holy, and it takes righteousness to come before him. But remember, you have no righteousness in and of yourself.

So how can I become righteous (right before God)? How can I get to a place where God will accept me? What can I do? Nothing! There is only one way that you can be made right with God. There is only one person that was sinless, perfect before God. His name is Jesus Christ. Because God loves you so much, he gave his one and only Son so that you could be made right (righteous) with him (Jn.3:16).

If you will receive by faith, that Christ died for your unrighteousness (sins), and that he arose from the grave to give you eternal life, you shall be saved (Rom.10:9-10).
He also will give you the grace to turn from your sins (repentance) if you will indeed receive it. He wants you to walk in holiness and began a life that is pleasing to him. By his grace, he will lead you in the purifying process, one step at a time.

So what are you waiting for? “Now is the day of salvation” (2Cor.6:2). You are not guaranteed another chance or day to make the choice to receive a relationship with God through Christ. Now is your chance! Turn today and receive God’s love and mercy. He has made a way for you because of His love for you. Don’t refuse His love! Turn today!

This is a great summary of this form of the gospel presentation. Thanks for the posting.

I was talking this past week with a short term missionary who was getting ready to work with indigenous tribes in partnership with a local church plant. Truly an unreached people group, with minimal contact with the Christian worldiew, with superstistion as the core of their worldiew.

How would you adapt this to such a context for a short term missionary?

That was the question that I asked him.

I invited you to email me comments as well as post them here. I don’t always remember where I’ve commented. (i use a plugin that notifies all commenters automatically)

    Chris W,
I believe you could still go after their heart. No matter where they are in the world, the heart and the things that come out of the heart are still not good. Someone was telling me recently, that in every nation people all know that it is not right to take someone else’s wife. How about stealing something that doesn’t belong to you? Even in other cultures, things come out of the heart that are not right before God. It may differ, but it still is wrong before our creator.

    Good to hear from you,

    God bless you bro.

Thanks. Praise God for he led me the whole way with it. I was preaching it and studying it out for a couple of month’s. The original is not yet finished, but really felt led to get it out in tract form, which we have done. Praise Him!
P.S. Sorry about the other night when you called, the daughter was on the other line and I lost ya.
Be blessed as you go out!
