“Not ignorant of Satan’s devices”

January 29, 2014

“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” (2Cor.2:11)

In this text of scripture, the Apostle Paul was saying that “unforgiveness” is one way that Satan could take advantage of us. (see previous verses 1 through 10). However, as we all know, this is certainly not the only way in which he works. Our main emphasis here should be that we “are not ignorant of his devices”. The word “ignorant” here meaning that we are “not knowing through lack of information”. And in some cases, it could be that we don’t want to know for many different reasons.

But according to this verse, there is a good reason to know. Because if we are ignorant of Satan’s devices (purposes), then he could well get an advantage of us. Yes, even us believers. Who wants to be taken advantage of by Satan? None of us. Thus we need to be informed, aware of his purposes and how he works.

There seems to be a thread that circulates through the many churches today. That being, that all we need to do is just draw close to Jesus. Don’t worry about the enemy. Don’t give him the time of day. Don’t look into how he might work. The only problem with this thinking or teaching is that Satan is the god of this world, and we being in this world but not of it, should be wise to a certain extent of his wiles or ways in which he works. Why? Because those who have yet to be born again, are under Satan’s influence. He has them blinded.

“In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not,” (2Cor.4:4a)

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God,” (Acts.26:18a,b)

One good reason to understand Satan’s purposes, is so that those who are lost and under his control, that we come in contact with, we might have a better understanding how he is working in their lives, and through the Holy Spirit, be able to minister to them.

The Apostle Peter knew a little how Satan worked, right? He said that we must be “sober” and “vigilant”. Why? “because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about seeking whom he may devour.” (1Pet.5:8). The word “sober” here means, “be discreet and watch”. Where have we heard that word “watch” before? “watch and pray…..”

The word “vigilant” here means, “keep awake”. Keeping awake keeps us not ignorant.

We are not to be learning of Satan’s devices so that we can give him credit for all he is doing today. No. We are to be wise so that he would not have an advantage on us. Oh he has never had an advantage on me, you say? Well, if that’s the case, then you have just put yourself in a class above the Apostle Paul.

“Therefore we wanted to come to you, even I Paul, time and time again; but Satan hindered us.” (1Th.2:18). He said “time and time again”. Sounds like it might have happened more than once, you think?

Another main reason to be wise of Satan’s devices, is so that when we are tempted of him, we will be quick through our understanding of him, to resist the temptation. This is where the being “sober” and “vigilant” comes in handy. Also, always “watching and praying” so that we “will not enter into temptation”. If any one knew about this, Jesus did. Thus, he gave us this admonition.

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mt.26:41)

It is a no brainer that Satan works through our flesh. They are in kahoots for sure. Being in the Spirit is the key to overcoming the works or the temptations of the flesh. (see Rom.8)

Another good reason to “not be ignorant of Satan’s devices” is so that “our minds would not be corrupted from the simplicity that is found in Christ”. The Apostle Paul in his letter to the church at Corinth, said…..

“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (2Cor.11:3). In these verse, he speaks of the reality of Satan and how he can deceive believers. In the context of this verse is the fact that Satan can come through false teachers and false doctrine. Just one of the many ways he works. Thus the need to be aware of how he works.

We must always be reminded that we must be pro-active. There is no automatic’s in this life. Like I have said many times, if we think that all we have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride, then we have been deceived already and Satan is very content.

In our pro-activeness against the devil, there is a very important thing that we must do daily. And that being….. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Eph.6:11). If there was no need, or no battle to fight against the devil in this life, than why are we instructed to “put on the armor?”

The reality is that we are in spiritual warfare. Now of course, if we bury our heads in the sand, and say that the battle has already been won, and that there is nothing we need do except just abide, then we are not in reality and we are not out in the world which is the battlefield.

Now to bring it home and to close this post, lets look at this the next verse in this passage. It is the reality of the world in which we live in. Remember, this passage was not written to non-believers, but believers. “Finally, my brethren,…..

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities (chief in rank or order), against powers (delegated influence, authority, jurisdiction), against the rulers ( a world ruler, an epithet of Satan) of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph.6:12)

Now, for all those who have been taught that this is only about spiritual warfare in the “heavenly realm”, I remind you that the word “places” here means, “in all places, everywhere, all”. So, it is not only in the heavenly realm, but right here where we are living on earth.

In closing, be open and prayerful about becoming more aware of Satan’s devices (purposes) so that he would not have an advantage on you and so that you can know how to battle in this world (the battlefield) for God and his kingdom. God bless you!

Light in the city

April 12, 2012

I had heard from the Spirit in the morning hours that we were going to be sharing THE LIGHT today.

After getting into the city and walking around prayerfully, we honed in on a corner. At first, I had sensed to wait and pray on the corner, which I did. Then, I began to shout in a quick voice “LIGHT! Then, a few minutes later, again “LIGHT!” Then came “Jesus is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD!”

This was another opportunity and a reminder how powerful our words can be when in the SPIRIT. In the spiritual realm, our words have power. Not of course because of us, but the Spirit inside of us coming out.

This was all setting the pace in the Spirit for what would happen over the next couple of hours. Light was going forward in the Spirit to push back the darkness. This is what God wanted to accomplish at this time and moment. He wanted to clear the air, so to speak, and let light go forth and hit the people with His light.

After about 10 minutes of proclaiming THE LIGHT, I looked to the left and noticed a commuter train coming. My first look at it as it passed by, I noticed that it had a sign on the train that read “Got Light?” Wow! I thought. Now, I had seen this advertizing sign before on the train, but this time it jumped out at me as I was sharing LIGHT. How fitting and confirming it was to me.

So, the Spirit continued to flow as we shared Christ as the LIGHT. We shared a few scriptures regarding light also. The Spirit had a few from time to time on this corner who were caught in the cross-hairs as they stood there listening as they were waiting for the bus. Also, a couple of them came up and took tracts to take with them.

I would rotate to one side of the corner of the building that was there, to the other side. The Spirit had it all under control. Light was breaking forth. A few, as usual were interested in the light. We shared that many loved darkness, and that was why they did not come to the light.

Finishing the day and going home on the bus, a brother gets on and we share about the light and what happened that day. He downloaded some scriptures on his phone regarding light and I read them out loud at a normal tone of voice. A few stops later this guy gets on and sits down near us and begins to shake, twitch and move around as the scriptures are being heard. I sensed the demonic with one, and only one look at him as our eyes met. I turned and kept reading. Soon, a couple stops later, this guy jumps up and bolts for the rear door and departs out. I look out the window and he’s standing there on the sidewalk shaking and yelling out loud. Talk about getting hit with the light! Darkness was dispelled when light came! A pretty awesome example it was.

My friend didn’t understand what was taking place in the spiritual realm. He had gone over to him when he was on the bus and first started shaking and had asked him if he was alright. The guy replied with some vulgar words in which my friend left him alone and went back to sit down.

After I explained to him the spiritual side of what just took place, he got it. I believe it was an eye opener to all who saw and heard what went on. Maybe some people will wake up to the reality of the spiritual realm and how and what takes place as it manifests itself in the physical.

Jesus THE LIGHT! Darkness has to flee! It has no choice!

The extreme battle of warfare for the soul

March 26, 2012

Many times I have seen and dealt with people that have been brought face to face with “turning”. It’s like they are brought to the “door” once again. This door is the door of Repentance. It has repentance written all over it. It must be opened by God for sure, for one to enter in and receive remission of sins. But, one must with God’s divine help, put their hand on the knob. This door does not open on it’s own accord. One must be willing to turn when God, by His Spirit moves upon their heart.

Stubbornness and rebellion, which are Satan’s main tools, prevent one from grabbing the knob and turning.

It’s a war out there, for sure. All of us should be in this battle for souls in one form or another. If we are not in enteraction with lost people on a regular basis, then our only other warfare would be intersession warfare for souls of men.

When in the battlefield, we know the reality of this war first hand. If not in battle, of course we would not understand it’s extreme nature. Those of us who are, we see and partake first hand with the struggle between good and evil, stubbornness and rebellion, God and Satan, all for the souls of mankind. It is the most extreme warfare on the planet, let alone in the heavenly realm. It’s real to say the least.

If you deal with it (and you should in some fashion) on regular basis, then you know what I am talking about. No wonder we need the ARMOR of GOD on at all times! It’s WAR out there. And, it ain’t going away anytime soon. It’s intensity is increasing with each passing day.

Are you enlisted in this war? Have you said to God, “Here am I, send me?” Are you interested in defending God’s kingdom in the spiritual realm?

Hidden until they come out

September 30, 2011

She turned around and looked at me. I smiled and said, “God bless you”. Then fiery demonic spirits jumped out of her and were flying all around the bus.

I was headed off to another part of town to visit a brother who has been struggling since the police shot his dog over a month ago. As I was walking to the bus stop, I stood across the street waiting for the light to change. I saw all the people there waiting for the bus. As the light turned red, the cars stopped, myself and others crossed the street. As I got to the corner, I noticed that it was very quite and I went to prayer to see if the Lord would have me to share out loud, the Gospel.

I started in. I sensed that He wanted me to keep it to a tone where only those who were present at the stop could here. So I did. It was quick and to the point. The usual sharing of the Christ, Sin, separation, forgiveness etc. Only after about five minutes, the bus came, and we all filed into line to board. I smiled and said nothing, neither did anyone else. I got on and felt led to sit about half way down, so I did. The seat ahead of me was empty. Little did I know who was about to sit there.

She was a lady that I am guessing was about 65. It was a beautiful sunny warm day, and she had a sun bonnet on. I didn’t notice her sit down, but after she did, she turned and looked at me. I smiled and said, “God bless you”. Then fiery demonic spirits jumped out of her and were flying all around the bus.

She went into one for the next 5 minutes. She said that she “loved God and went to church”, but we should not be “proselytizing”. “What right did I have trying to make others believe what I believe, you are not acting like Jesus”. After a few sentences, she began to get loud and hot. She grabbed her bags, as if she was leaving. I said, “we should be sharing the Gospel. The bible is full of reasons as to why we should.” She stood up and said, “I can’t take this, I moving to the back.”

I sat there just praying for the lady. Went she sat down in her new spot, she quickly found a guy to go along with her position on sharing the Gospel out loud. I continued to pray. Soon, she got up to de-board and stood across from me, waiting for the bus to stop and the doors to open. The bus came to a stop. She turned around and glared at me. I smiled and said, “have a nice day”. I could tell that she wanted to say the same, but didn’t. All she said was, “ah, ok. I will pray for you.”

I have been ministering long enough to know when the demonic spirits are present. She dumped a big load on that bus. I immediately began to call on the blood of Jesus. My stop came a few stops later. When I got off and my feet hit the sidewalk, I knew then there were spirits hanging onto me. I rebuked them, pleaded the blood, and prayed hard. It took some real spiritual battling as I walked down the sidewalk.

Finally, after sometime and walking, the victory was won through the blood. A constant reminder that there is truly power like no other, in the blood of Christ.

Another testimony, of a women that on the outside appeared to be your friendly, kind, everyday lady. And in this case, a church goer. Inside was another story.

In my years of street ministry, I am seeing more and more, that women are rising to the occasion, so to speak, and are very subtilty being used by the enemy. I have run across a couple of older women that would put most demonic men to shame, as far as to what they are carrying. Their bags so to speak, are full. At the slightest mention of sin, the demons inside them, explode!

I didn’t receive complete revelation of what had happened that day, until the evening came. Basically, she had heard the word “Sin” in the gospel message. The demons inside her, of course didn’t like that. Also, she was probably engaged in a sinful lifestyle. What I was sensing was lesbianism.

In the coming days we are going to see more and more people with sinful lifestyles rise up against the Gospel and the preaching of Sin. Some of the most violent are going to be women, and women of all ages. I have seen some very young and pretty women, turn on a dime, at the mention of Christ and sin. Remember, we don’t war against flesh and blood. But spiritual wickedness in high places. Those “high places” could surprise us.

Two Kingdoms at War

March 3, 2011

Which Kingdom are you in? Are you at war?

There are only two kingdoms. People are only in one or the other. There is God’s kingdom and Satan’s kingdom. And the battle is only over one thing. The human soul for eternity.

“Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath,” Why? “because he knows that he has a short time.” (Rev.12:12b)

“And the dragon (the Devil/Satan) was enraged with the women, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (12:17)

The spiritual battle for souls is intensifying. I see it more and more as the day approaches. Satan is very, very angry because he sees the end coming and wants to get all the souls he can for eternity. More and more people are being overcome with all his devises, such as drugs, alcohol, sex, and pornography etc. Satan has his “hooks” in people so he can lure them to wherever he wants them to go. His main objective is to lure them right into eternity, to see them together in a place prepared for himself and all his angels. (See Rev.20:10, 15 and 21:8)

We as believers, are the “offspring” that he (Satan), has come to make war with. Do you sence this war going on? I am not talking about the daily troubles, such as, problems at home, problems at work, relationship problems etc. These are common everyday difficulties that all face in one form or another. It doesn’t matter whether you are a believer or not. What I am talking about is the warfare that is going on if you are actively engaged in some form of “rescuing the perishing”. This is where the main battle is. Yes, there is other forms of warfare that we as believers face. But, the hot spot of the battle is and always has been on the front lines battling for eternal souls.

Satan is at war with you, if you are “keeping the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”. For all those who want to put God in a denominational box, and say that He is talking about the “Ten Commandments” here, need to take a look at this word “commandments”. It means, “injunction” which is “to enjoin”. “the act or an instance of enjoining: order, admonition.” The word “enjoin” has to do with “yoke”. “to direct or impose by authoritative order or with urgent admonition.”

We are safe with saying that it is those who are “enjoining” themselves into God’s word, God’s order and admonition. Those who are taking upon themselves the “yoke” of Jesus. Taking on His “authority” and “admonition”.

Satan is also at war with you if you have the “testimony of Jesus”. This word “testimony” means that there is “evidence given”. Does your life bear evidence of Jesus? If not, you are not at war, and you need to be really concerned. If Satan is not at war with you personally, then you need to be very concerned as to where you are in your relationship with God and his kingdom. The word “testimony” also means, “record, report, witness”. What’s our record with Jesus? How about our report? Our witness?

It is not as though we go looking for this “war”. No, we don’t go looking for Satan, and he is not under every bush either. However, if we are active in God’s Kingdom, there will be evidence of spiritual battle in this war. It will usually be manifested through people. Just like God uses people, Satan also uses them. In Revelations 12:9, it says that “his angels were cast to the earth ” along with Satan. He has untold angels roaming the earth today. If you are active, you won’t have to be looking very far for them. They will find you.

So, a good indicator as to whether you are in this war or not, is to take inventory of your most recent days here on this earth, and see if Satan has raised his ugly head at you. Do you see the battle raging through people around you? Does Satan send one of his angels across your path occasionally? If so, Good! You’re in the war for souls. Yours and others, and it’s a good thing.

In closing, how do we “overcome” Satan? The answer is found in verse eleven. “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Three things here. The blood of Christ. Our spoken testimony. And by not loving our lives while here on earth, even if it costs us our lives. Good then, the word “testimony” also comes from the meaning of “martyr”

God bless you as you march forward and take your place in His Army on the battle field.

Determination and Warfare

December 19, 2010

If you’re in the battle, needless to say, there is a war going on.

If you’re in God’s Kingdom, which is not of this world, then you are at war. If you have yet to be born into His Kingdom, than there is no war going on, and you would say, “what war, you must be nuts, what are you talking about?” If this is the case, it’s because it is a spiritual war involving a spiritual kingdom, and you must be “born of the Spirit” to understand this war, much less enter into. Jesus himself taught this in John chapter three.

This war is for our souls. If we are not in God’s Kingdom, then Satan already has us, and no war or battle is needed. We would be sensing on war, no battle. But, if you have been born of the Spirit and you are alive and “in the Spirit”, living for God and His Kingdom daily above all else, then you are in some intense warfare. And guess what? It’s only going to get worse as we fight to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This battle is “not against flesh and blood (people), but “spiritual wickedness in high places” (where Satan is).

If we sit and fold our hands, go to church, dance with the world, and think everything is fine, we need a “wake up call”.

While I don’t consider myself a “Skillet” fan, this song does have some real determination to fight against the world and its evil ways, and the “ruler” thereof.

Many times, in the Spirit, we must take up the sword and do some spiritual battle, in the Spirit. Whistling and skipping along with our iPod in our ear, will not do it. We must fight!

I hope this song gives you some determination. God bless you as you war on in the Spirit!

PS. the song might be a little heavy for some

It takes effort! Moment by moment, day by day

July 21, 2010

It takes effort to stay in the Spirit. It is not automatic. Just because we are Christians and go to church is no guarantee that today we will remain in the Spirit. It’s day by day, moment by moment.

It would be nice if it didn’t take any real effort to remain in the Spirit. But then, would it have any real value? Doesn’t anything of real value take effort? The truth is that if we want to remain in the Spirit, it does take effort, and lots of it.

If we could remain in our little church bubble, be surrounded by our church friends all the time, this would allow us to remain in the Spirit, right? Wrong. This would be an illusion to real life in a real world full of sin and every ungodly thing. We are to be in the world. Christ was, and we are no different. “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” (Jn.17:18)

So, if we are living outside of the box (the bubble), and rubbing shoulders with the ungodly, we will be subjected to all kinds of sin and every thing imaginable under the sun. We will be tempted and tried daily. This is to our benefit if we indeed want to grow and not remain a babe in the faith. I can truly say that in all my years walking with God, it has not let up. It has only gotten more fierce as I go. It’s one thing to remain saved, yet another to try and fulfil God’s purpose while on earth. Two battles. One to remained saved, the other to fulfill your God given purpose on earth.

But, it is God’s purpose and will that we remain victorious and live in His Spirit moment by moment, day by day. Our “being set apart” (a continual process of sanctification) is God’s will. (See 1Thess.4:1-12)

What are some Keys to overcoming this flesh in this world?

What is the only way to “put to death the deeds of the body?”     By the Spirit!  “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors – not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if (by choice) by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” (Rom.8:12-13)

We must always be reminded that the real battle is in the mind. The battle starts here. Any sinful action always is proceeded by a sinful thought.

So what is the key to overcoming in our thought life?   Remaining in the Spirit. “bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” (2Cor.10:5) This is only possible through the Spirit. It’s the power to overcome!

It takes effort. The flesh wants nothing to do with effort. It’s weak. Weakness has nothing to do with effort. When I am weak, I want to do nothing.

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober,” (1Pet.1:13). This word “gird” has to do with “intensity” and “repetition”. Can you see the fight?

A transformation takes place when we renew our minds moment by moment. “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Why? “so that we can prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Rom.12:2)

Another Key that takes effort is that we must “put off” and “put on”.  “that you put off, concerning your former conduct (your former living) the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of you mind. And that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.” (Eph.4:22-24)

This verse is key. It has a lot of good stuff in it. There is the effort of putting on and off. The putting off of our former living in the lusts of the flesh. There is the effort of allowing the Spirit to renew our minds. Again, this is a moment by moment, day by day effort. Then there is the putting on of the new man. This man is and was, created like God according to true rightness and holiness.

How about some more effort of “putting on?”  “But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Rom.13:14). What better to put on, but Christ. Not only that, but we should not give way to the flesh. We should not provide for it. We are not it’s provider! It continually wants to lust after any and everything. It’s very nature is LUST. Why is that? Because it can never be satisfied. So why shouldn’t it lust?

Initially, we were baptized into Christ and did put Him on. (Gal.3:27). But, we can’t bank on that one initial baptism and so live to cater to the flesh and it’s lusts. There must be a daily crucifiction to the flesh. Actually, moment by moment, through the Spirit.

Like I have said many times, the greatest battle that one will ever face, is that of the battle of flesh and Spirit.

If we stay in the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”  This is the key!  “For the flesh lusts (it’s desire is against the Spirit) against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; (The WAR) and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” (sounds like Rom.7:15). “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the (this) law.” What law is he talking about? The law that the flesh is against the Spirit. This is the law that Paul is referring to. (Gal.5:16-18)

So, the bottom line is that it takes effort on our part. We have everything we need in Christ. We have God’s Holy Spirit indwelling within us, which gives us the power to overcome the flesh. Each day and moment, we must take out the sword, and by the Spirit, put to death the flesh.

We can expect no power, no victories, no overcoming, no going forward, unless we fight in the Spirit!

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name (seems like it may be possible) from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” (Rev.3:5)

Lord of Hosts and spiritual hosts

March 19, 2010

When was the last time you mention the words, “Lord of Hosts?”

You are walking down the side walk and you see a person coming your way. When he gets close, you say to him, “hey, do you know the Lord of Hosts?” Could you imagine the look on his face as he tries to figure out what in the hoot you are talking about. At least, out here in the west it would be in most cases, foreign to him.

How many believers would it be foreign to? When was the last time at a “prayer meeting” you heard someone praying to the “Lord of Hosts?”

Suffice it to say, it is not a common expression of God today. So it would be good to get an understanding of this meaning, would it not? Do you know that in the Old Testament, it appears 235 times?

Needless to say, that in Old Testament times it was all about wars, fighting, kingdoms, kings, rulers, armies etc. Literal fighting was common occurrence. Kings and Kingdoms were what took place back then.

The word, “Hosts” in it’s Hebrew meaning, means “that which goes forth, army, war, warfare”. So without a doubt, you can see how fitting the description “Lord of Hosts” was in it’s day. It fit right in. It was common for the day.

God was their fighting force. If He was on your side, you won. If He was against you, you lost. In some cases, you were slaughtered to pieces. Some could have said that He was the God of war. Maybe, The Lion of the tribe of Judah?

In any case, we move ahead into the New Testament. Do we still see fighting, killing, wars, kings and kingdoms? Literally?

Jesus was all about a “kingdom”, a realm. But was it to be a literal kingdom? The Jews were certainly looking for one. Could it be because that is what they were used to?

Along comes this guy with a “spiritual” meaning. He talked about spiritual things, hard to understand. Most in his day could not grasp much of what he said and taught. Why? Because it was spiritual.

He was of a spiritual kingdom. A kingdom that was not in this world, nor of it. Is it to be any different today? In 2010?

If God is a spirit and Christ is about a spiritual kingdom, then what would be important in reaching people today? Would we need to share with them about a spiritual kingdom? How important would it be to address them as Jesus did Nicodemus?

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again (from above), he cannot see (to know, understand, knowledge) the kingdom of God.” (Jn.3:3)

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (3:5)

…..”So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (end of vs.8)

So we see what it takes to enter this spiritual kingdom and understand it.

Because this kingdom is spiritual, and you can’t see it with the eyes, we need to “be in the Spirit” to partake with whats going on in this realm. If not, we miss out on what The Spirit is doing. Remember, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (Jn.4:24)

And to see how “Lord of Hosts” enters into today? We understand that this is a spiritual kingdom and a spiritual birth must take place to see and enter into, right? What about “warfare” today? What kind of war are we in today? What kind of battle is taking place today? Is there war besides literal fighting?

If this kingdom is spiritual, could the war or fighting be spiritual? What kind of enemy do we have. Is he spiritual? Can I see him?

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God,” Why? “that we may be able to stand against the wiles (schemings) of the devil.”

Here is who we do battle against. “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood (people), but against principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness (this darkness) of this age, against spiritual hosts (there you have it. Spiritual armies) of wickedness in the heavenly places (or in the heavenlies)” (Eph.6:10-12)

So we see how we must be fit for combat. This is war! If you don’t think it is, than you are not engaged in the Spirit. And again, we must be in the Spirit to partake in the things of the Spirit. And that includes this war!

Finish reading in Ephesians, 13 through 18 to complete the “whole armor of God”. Don’t forget verse 18, “praying always in the Spirit”. Why? Because this is spiritual battle! Not fleshly. It takes the Spirit to do battle. The flesh would be cut into a million pieces if it fought this battle. It is not fit for this war! No way!

Some of us need to go back to “boot camp” and train to be ready to fight. How many of our churches are training for this spiritual battle? Is yours? If not, bring it up. Suggest it. Why? Because we haven’t seen anything yet. There is no time to be playing around. This is an all out war for souls! Plain and simple.

Singleness of heart

March 3, 2010

Singleness of heart produces singleness of mind (focus). The biggest spiritual battle we are in is the battle of the mind.

Christ himself taught about the heart. He said that out of the heart proceeds, evil (or bad) thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornication, thefts, false witness and blasphemies. (Matt.15:18-19)

While the above things mentioned can be the literal acts, more importantly, they can be done from the battlefield of the mind. As Christ taught, we can commit murder in our heart by hating our fellow man. We can commit adultery and fornication in our heart through lust. (Matt.5:21-22, 27-28)

We can even commit “theft” in our heart and not even physically do the act. How? By coveting our neighbors (any one close to us) stuff. If  someone has something that we want, and we dwell upon it, it could conceive in our heart and thus become sin.

So it all comes down to the heart. We need to get alone with God and shut the door. Come to God and take inventory of our heart. He already knows what is in there, but we need to ask Him to reveal to us our hearts. Because it is deceitful, if we don’t take inventory, we will be deceived by it, plain and simple. If we are not careful, we will be led down a road that might be long and windy.

Singleness of heart.

Christ taught on the “Lamp of the body” in Luke 11:33-36. He said that the lamp of the body was the eye. The word here means, the eyes of the mind. He says that if it is good (clear or healthy) than our whole body is full of light. But, if the eyes of our mind is bad (evil or unhealthy) then our bodies are full of darkness.

So it is either “light” or “darkness”.

Now, if we see another translation of the word “good” in verse 34 as “single”, it opens up another understanding. Singlemindedness which is produced from singleheartedness. Remembering that our minds (or thoughts) stem from the heart.

If our “eye” of the soul be single, it will be clear. There will be no confusion. No double-mindedness. Because of this “singleness” we will see (understand) things as they are meant to be, spiritually. Thus our whole being (our souls), or whole body will be full of light. There will be no darkness.

Endeavoring to have a pure heart will keep our minds pure of thoughts. When sin or darkness is in our heart, it produces wrong desires, wrong directions and wrong motives. We get off track when our hearts are not “full of light”. Darkness or sin, prevents us from walking in the understanding of the Lord, which is “light”.

We must walk (live) in the light as Christ is in the light. Full obedience to this light.

The mind follows the heart. Why? Because it stems (or comes from) the heart.

Some good understanding of the word “heart” is needed. In Hebrew it means, inner man or inner part. Mind, will or understanding. In Greek it means, the soul or mind. The fountain or seat of our thoughts, desires and affections. The middle, central or innermost part.

The early church knew what it was like to have “singleness of heart”, thus the power came down and the Lord added daily such as should be saved. (Acts 2:41-47). Another meaning for the word “singleness”, is “simplicity”. Simplicity of heart. A simple heart. Not cluttered. Not all stuffed up. One that is single hearted in devotion to the Lord.

An emptying out of our heart needs to take place routinely. Why? Because stuff creeps in. This could not only be sins, but any useless clutter. Thus, emptying the room of any clutter so we can be free and single to our Lord. Becoming (because it is a process) simple and free to serve our Lord in single-hearted devotion.

So, we need to take inventory and clean the house where necessary, spiritually speaking. Get rid if any clutter and things that are of no use spiritually to us. This will free us up in our thought life too. Our minds are cluttered, because our hearts are cluttered. Slow down and do some house cleaning.

God bless you as you too do some cleaning!

What a friend

September 2, 2008

Recently this old hymn came to me as I was dealing with the struggles of life.

Everybody is dealing with stuff in their lives. Some of which is trivial, other is very important and some very serious. The key is how do we handle it. Do we worry? Are we anxious?

Somethings we bring on ourselves. Others just happen with no apparent reason. Somethings God allows into our lives for reason. He has purpose for all he does, or allows.

We must get to God in prayer, for herein lies the secret. Peace amidst the storms of life can only be found in the hollow of His hand. Under the shadow of His wings.

This song has been a great blessing to me over the last couple of weeks as I go through the fire of refinement. One thing I have found out in this life and that is, that it is a fight. The calling that The Lord has given me for this life has been my biggest fight to keep. The devil has won once in my life, but by God’s grace he will never win again.

Fight on dear brother or sister! We must draw closer to Him in prayer daily. This is a battle, like it or not. Satan has a plan also. He wants to not only take you out in the end, but get you off track in this life. God has a special purpose for you personally while here on earth. If you are off track, Satan is smiling all along the way. And it’s more than just, eat, sleep, work, then play. The world paints that picture. The world says, “get all you can at whatever cost”. It yells out, “you deserve it”.

Jesus said, we are to be in the world, but not of it.(Jn.17) What does that mean to you? Take a few minutes and grab the concordance and look at all the scriptures that talk about not loving the world or not being of the world.

This materialistic society is getting worse by the minute. And we all need to take inventory daily of our lives and check and see which way we are going. Are we going towards God and his ways, or are we going towards the world and it’s ways?

Quite frankly I am sick of this world. I have found one cure that makes it possible to survive, and that is living in The Spirit of God daily. But it is truly a fight every inch of the way. We must keep at the foot of the cross daily. Daily close to Him, or the world will eat you up and keep spitting you out over and over again. That is just the way it is, like it or not.

How are you doing with you calling? Your purpose that He has for you? Are you pursuing it?
For some of you, do you even know what he has called you to?

Anyways, here is the song. May you read it slowly and be blessed by it.

What a Friend
What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
Oh what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble any where?
We should never be discouraged, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms he’ll take and shield thee, thou wilt find a solace there.

God bless you as you go out.
